A new breed of people have arisen in the technology industry - the software architect. Beware though - there are two kinds and they are very different.
One kind is the blueprint architects the cousines of management consultants. They produce big ideas, never build anything and are gone before work on the solution starts (- on to the next big idea). The tools of their trade is powerpoint and whitepapers.
The second kind is the seasoned developer who has been in the trenches and made real code do actual work, and architect is often just a formal recognition of experience in the title. The tools of their trade is code and company throught the project.
